Is Legend of the Seas the New Icon Class Champion? Five Reasons Why I Am Switching My Booking

by - July 03, 2026

If you have been following the evolution of the Icon Class, you know that sailing on ships like Star of the Seas feels like stepping into the future of cruising. The energy is high, the innovation is everywhere, and honestly, I loved every minute of my time on board.

But even while sitting in the Aquadome Theater, watching the show and looking around at the crowd, I had a hunch. I thought to myself, Royal Caribbean is going to take what they learned here and make it even better.

They did exactly that. When Legend of the Seas arrives in Fort Lauderdale this November, I am officially switching my booking. If you are debating which Icon Class ship to choose for your next vacation, here are five reasons why Legend might be the upgrade you have been looking for.

1. Enhanced Comfort in the Aquadome

We have all been there. You grab a seat for a high-energy show, only to realize twenty minutes in that your back is protesting. On Star, I actually gave up my seats to a family behind me because the lounge chairs were simply more comfortable than the standard seating rows. Royal Caribbean clearly heard that feedback. On Legend, every single seat in the Aquadome Theater now features a proper chair back. It is a small change that makes a massive difference for enjoying the performances.

2. A Cinematic Evolution of The Pearl

The Pearl is the stunning three-deck sphere in the center of the Royal Promenade that stops everyone in their tracks on Icon and Star. On Legend, they have taken this icon and completely reimagined the interior. Instead of just color-changing panels, they have installed over 600 LED panels that play over 100 minutes of full cinematic animation. It is a totally different category of visual immersion that keeps the heart of the ship feeling fresh every time you walk through.

3. Elevated Specialty Dining

If you are the type of cruiser who loves to splurge on a big night out, Legend offers two incredible specialty dining experiences that you cannot find on Icon or Star.

  • Royal Railway: This immersive experience is built around an ancient Silk Road train journey. With live storytelling and visuals on the windows as you travel from Asia to Europe, it is as much about the entertainment as the food.

  • Hollywood Land Supper Club: A unique theme focused on the 1910s through the 1950s. It brings a level of retro cinema glamour to the ship that is currently exclusive to Legend

4. An Upgraded (and Included) Culinary Scene

One of the best parts of the Icon Class is the variety of included food, and Legend takes the Aquadome Market to a new level. The five food stalls have been refreshed with entirely new culinary concepts. We are talking Soulmate, Adobo, La Espanola, Cajun Kitchen, and Simply Pressed for fresh juice. Whether you want a Korean snack before a show or a Cajun lunch on a sea day, these delicious options are included in your base fare.

5. The First Two-Story Casino

Whether you are a high roller or just enjoy the atmosphere, the casino on Legend is a game changer. Unlike the single-deck layouts on Icon and Star, Legend features the first two-story casino in the fleet. Connected by grand staircases with a central bar, it transforms the entire evening energy on board. It acts as a massive social hub and a visual landmark that makes the ship feel even more dynamic.

A Quick Note on the Trade-offs

No ship is perfect, and there is one trade-off to keep in mind. The Attic, which served as a free comedy club on previous Icon Class ships, has been replaced by the Royal Railway specialty dining experience. While you lose that specific free venue, the addition of the new dining options adds a high-end layer to the ship that many cruisers will appreciate.

Ready to Sail?

Legend of the Seas finishes her Mediterranean season in October before heading to Fort Lauderdale this November. If you have been looking for an excuse to try an Icon Class ship, these debut dates are absolutely worth watching.
